Tyrique George deserves Everton chance as transfer decision approaches

Tyrique George has not been handed many opportunities to impress at Everton so far.

The Chelsea youngster was signed on loan in the winter transfer window, but he has been restricted to just one Premier League start.

David Moyes needs to give him a chance to impress in the final two matches, against Sunderland and Tottenham.

The Blues need more data to make a judgment on whether to trigger the buy clause in his loan deal, which is believed to be around £22million, with decision time approaching.

Everton have not seen enough so far, to fully commit to adding the youngster to the squad on a permanent basis.

How has George performed for Everton so far?

George signing for Everton permanently seems unlikely at the moment, he has not earned Moyes’ trust.

However, the underlying data from when he has got on the pitch, suggests that would be a mistake.

He has made 9 appearances, for a total of 174 minutes, which is not a lot of time to show what he can do at the top-level.

Despite his limited action, he has taken six shots, producing an expected goals tally of 0.27 from those efforts, per Sofascore.

He has also created two big chances, for a total of 0.64 expected assists, suggesting that he can be a good creative outlet.

He would have to improve on his 33.3 per cent crossing accuracy, but that would likely get better with more time to learn with his teammates.

Moyes likes his wingers to help out defensively, and George has proven that he can do that, with four tackles and two interceptions.

Why Moyes cannot case George aside yet

George clearly has so much more to offer, and while the Blues’ priority is probably adding Jack Grealish permanently, they should not brush the loanee aside, he deserves his chance.

He would be a brilliant back-up, and the ideal situation would be having him work with the Manchester City loanee to improve his game, and eventually take over as the starting left winger.

Moyes should use the final games as a measuring stick and give himself the best possible opportunity to see whether George has what it takes.

It would be a bitter blow if he were to sign someone else and show what he is capable of, after the Toffees cut him loose.
