Frank Lampard’s comments on Seamus Coleman revisited after Everton exit claim made

Frank Lampard loved Seamus Coleman when he was the manager of Everton.

Coleman is set to leave the Toffees after 17 years of service, when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The former Sligo Rovers ace played 32 times under the ex-Chelsea man when the Blues were still located at Goodison Park.

Following his Hill Dickinson Stadium exit announcement, Irish pundit Alan Cawley has claimed that he could reunite with his former boss.

Everton fans would find that as an interesting reunion, and probably wish the duo success in their endeavours.

What was said about Coleman and Lampard reunion

Cawley raised the possibility that Coleman could link up with Lampard, which he believes would be a win-win for all parties.

Speaking on RTE Soccer Podcast on 18 May, he said: “I also have a sneaky feeling as well with Coventry getting promoted and (Frank) Lampard loves him, it wouldn’t surprise me to see him rock up at Coventry.

“Because it would be a brilliant move for him and would still keep him somewhere where he would probably play most weeks.

“But also from Lampard’s point of view, it would be an unbelievable fella to bring into the dressing room with the move into the Premier League, so it could be a win-win for everyone.”

That claim may be just a feeling that he has, but it does not seem to be that far beyond the realm of possibilities, given Lampard’s previous relationship with the player.

Why Lampard’s previous comments make it more likely

Cawley is right about Lampard’s admiration for the 37-year-old, as he has labelled him as one of the best people he has worked with in the game, which is high praise considering the people he has played with.

Speaking in October 2022, he said: ”I also know Seamus to be the best man, one of the best people that I have worked with in this game.

“He’ll also say the right things and do the right things. If it feels like he is contributing well for this club, he will want to stay here and help the cause. That is the sort of bloke he is.

“Seamus will know, and has to know, from us that whatever capacity that he wants to be at this club, he deserves whatever he wants.”

It remains to be seen whether the move is made, but it makes perfect sense after his previous comments on the departing Toffees ace.

Coleman’s experience in the dressing room is definitely something that can help out the Sky Blues in their attempts to stay in the top-flight.

He may not have as much to offer on the pitch, but he would certainly help with his top-flight know-how and his leadership abilities behind the scenes, in fact, he captained Lampard’s Blues in all but four of the games he played under him.

Toffees fans may hate the idea of seeing Coleman in the same division, but it would not be too bad seeing him reunite with their former boss, who still has some sympathisers on Merseyside.

His time with David Moyes‘ side has come to an end, but that does not mean that his time at the top level is done just yet.
