Alan Sugar fumes over Man City latest after what he's seen at Everton
Lord Alan Sugar has hit out at the prolonged delay regarding the Manchester City case, citing previous Everton and Tottenham examples.
City confirmed on Friday that they have lodged an appeal after being found guilty of breaching the Premier League's financial regulations.
It comes after the Premier League themselves announced this week that an independent commission had found City guilty of all charges brought against them.
This racks up more than 100 charges, but the case is set to drag on for longer now that City have lodged an appeal.
Even if the cases are not strictly the same, Everton fans can relate to the frustration City fans are feeling after the Toffees were twice punished for financial breaches in recent times.
In the view of Lord Sugar, there are no excuses for the delay to the punishment.
What does Lord Sugar want to see happen to Man City?
Everton were docked 10 points, later reduced to six, and then a further two points in a separate case.
While the cases themselves went on for a while, the punishments were fairly swift when they were handed down.
As for City, nobody knows when - or if - they will be deducted points.
There are suggestions it could be this season, while it may be further down the line.
Former Tottenham part-owner and chairman Lord Sugar hit out at City's appeal in a post on X on Friday afternoon.
"Manchester City Breaking rules. It has taken the authorities over years to conclude that Manchester city are guilty of breaking rules," he posted.
"However, the authorities have not imposed the punishment. When Spurs were found guilty of breaking rules, the punishment was imposed immediately.
"Twelve point deduction, a ban from the FA Cup and a £600,000 fine. My point being is that Man city have not had any punishments imposed and are free to carry on playing.
"In the case of Spurs and Everton, the points were immediately deducted in the appropriate season. It's simple.
"The rules are you are guilty and here is the punishment. The punishment should be implemented immediately. The process of appeal can then follow."
Lord Sugar was specifically referencing the 1994-95 season when Spurs were hit with a points deduction and a cup ban for financial irregularities.
Why Lord Sugar is unfortunately wrong
Everton fans can relate to the frustration, especially when the Toffees were one of the clubs impacted by City's alleged cheating.
While everyone wants an outcome now, however, the case is technically still ongoing.
City had a right to appeal and they have done just that.
Until the appeal is won or lost, this case remains active. From all the evidence seen, you would think City do not have a case.
But either way, this one is not done yet and it will likely dominate the headlines for a while longer.
