Everton fans can be forgiven for wondering just what the delay was as an update has finally dropped on the Manchester City case.

Toffees supporters need no reminding of the punishments handed down to their side in recent years.

Everton were hit with an immediate 10-point deduction three years ago after being found to have breached the Premier League's financial rules.

The punishment was the biggest sporting sanction in the competition's history, later reduced to a six-point hit.

Everton were then docked two more points in April 2024 for another Profitability and Sustainability Rules breach.

In both instances, the ruling was pretty swift. The same cannot be said of the Man City case.

It is easy to see why Everton fans dislike Premier League chiefs so much.

Even now, there is still a legal battle going on involving Everton as Burnley seek compensation.

On Friday, David Ornstein reported via The Athletic that Man City have been found guilty of 114 of the 115 financial charges brought against them.

There is no indication of what this could mean for City - some have suggested it may mean relegation - with the Citizens set to lodge an appeal.

As a reminder, City were referred to an independent comission in early 2023.

There has been radio silence pretty much throughout the four years since on what will happen next for the eight-time Premier League champions.

Everton fans can be forgiven for again questioning why this process has taken so long in comparison with their own, relatively speaking.

The fact there are 115 charges means it will naturally take longer than Everton's case, but a four-year wait is rather comical.

What can Man City learn from Everton cases?

It must be stressed that the cases are not the same.

However, the processes following a verdict being reached very much are the same.

Everton opted to appeal both points deductions. They were successful, to an extent, with the first, while they withdrew the second one after staying up.

While this is a massive development, albeit through nothing official, the end of the matter could still be a long, long way away.
