Everton have called on some familiar faces to help fight their ongoing legal dispute with Burnley.

The Toffees have been ordered to pay Burnley £35million pertaining to the impact of their financial breaches.

Everton were found to have broken Profit and Sustainability (PSR) rules over a three-year period relating to the 2021-22 season.

Burnley were relegated from the Premier League in 18th that season, in which Everton finished just four points above them.

The Toffees were deducted 10 points in 2023 for financial misdemeanours, which were later reduced to six upon appeal.

But the Championship side aren't giving up the fight in relation to their compensation, and neither are Everton.

Who have Everton appointed again to fight Burnley case?

As revealed by The Lawyer editor Christian Smith via X on Friday morning, Everton have hired Laurence Rabinowitz KC for the appeal against Burnley.

Rabinowitz, dubbed the "saviour of Everton", will once again fight a case for the Toffees alongside James Segan KC.

These two formed part of Everton's legal team that saw their aforementioned points deduction reduced in 2024.

The date for the appeal hearing is scheduled for January 2027, where it will be decided whether this pairing yet again get a positive result for Everton.

As detailed via Sky News, other clubs are known to have explored the idea of suing Everton as well, but it's only Burnley who've gone ahead with taking legal action.

So, in a hearing that is sure to be a highly-followed one in the new year, who will Everton's legal team be facing off against on Burnley's behalf?

As detailed in the aforementioned X thread by Smith, Burnley are calling on the services of David Hinchliffe to fight their corner.

Hinchliffe is a partner of Wiggin, a law firm that specialises in media, entertainment, technology and IP.

As per Wiggin's website, Hinchliffe has been advising football clubs for decades, and is "renowned as one of the best in the field."

He's acted on behalf of EFL and Premier League clubs including the likes of Tottenham and Crystal Palace, and has over 60 completed M&A (merger and acquisitions) transactions on his record.

So, it would appear as though Everton's legal 'dream team', as it were, are going to have a tough battle on their hands in the new year.
