Everton could have new owners in place very soon indeed if all goes to plan.

The Friedkin Group confirmed on Friday that they are exploring the sale of Everton.

This comes less than two years after the American group completed their own takeover on Merseyside.

After stabilising Everton with multiple cash injections, the Friedkins believe the time is right to potentially move on.

As Everton fans know all too well, however, takeovers do not just happen overnight.

A new update has now been shared on how long the process could take in the best-case scenario, and how many interested parties are already out there.

What's the latest on Everton takeover?

It previously emerged the Friedkin Group were potentially looking for some minority shareholders to join the Everton board.

And so it will be down to one group, or one mega-rich person, to purchase Everton from the Friedkins.

Elon Musk is one fanciful name put forward to buy Everton, but we all know that is not happening.

In an update for the i Newspaper on Friday, reliable journalist Mark Douglas reported at least two groups are showing a serious interest in Everton.

Douglas adds that US-based consortiums are the most likely buyer at this stage.

That is effectively one group made up of numerous people, likely spearheaded by a single figure.

Amanda Staveley’s PCP Capital Partners have recently been mooted, but she has since distanced herself from that.

So when could latest Everton takeover happen?

Douglas goes on to state that, if a buyer can be found quickly, a takeover could be finalised before the New Year.

However, it is pointed out that this seems unrealistic.

Instead, it will likely be at some stage in 2027 there is some tangible movement.

Now that the Friedkins have confirmed they are open to offers, though, it does at least provide some clarity.

Word is that they will continue financially supporting the Toffees, but hopefully a group more willing to take Everton to the next level is standing by.
