Everton set for £40m financial boost after stadium move

Everton should be aiming to double their current matchday income once they move to their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, according to Kieran Maguire.

Speaking to TheBootRoom (8 July), the football finance expert said that the move from Goodison Park to the club's new site on Liverpool's waterfront could be a game-changer financially for the Toffees.

Highlighting that Goodison generated little matchday revenue and even less at other times, Maguire believes the club could boost that figure to roughly £40million per season in the coming years [Liverpool Echo, 15 June].

He said: “As much as the charm of Goodison will be fondly remembered by fans, it was generating less than £1million per match.

“It isn’t really attractive on non-matchdays from a commercial point of view, unfortunately.

“(The club) should be looking at doubling the matchday income, and potentially heading to £40million in terms of matchday income over the next two years."

Other sporting, music and other events will only drive revenue streams higher, helping to assuage the Profit and Sustainability issues that have blighted the club in recent years.

Seasons from hell like 2023/24 - which entailed two separate points deductions - could soon be a thing of the past, especially if the club's new ownership can maximise their new home's potential to generate the kind of income Goodison Park never could.
