Kieran Maguire gives 'frustrated' Everton fans reality check after fresh 777 developments
Kieran Maguire believes things could be worse for Everton without the Freidkin Group.
There has been a lot of noise regarding the owners in L3, especially with what's happened off the field.
The Toffees employ the likes of Angus Kinnear, who was responsible for a controversial ending to what was supposed to be a positive summer transfer window.
But there are also some Evertonians who are not happy that the likes of Dan Freidkin are Co. are rarely seen at Hill Dickinson.
The US investors officially took over the Blues in December of 2024, purchasing the club from Farhad Moshiri's company, Blue Heaven Holdings.
With the Friedkins closing in on owning Everton for two years, it also nears the time when 777 Partners nearly bought them, which Maguire now looks at as perspective for the Toffees.
Kieran Maguire offers perspective to Everton fans after shock 777 Partners news
An agreement was in place in 2023 for 777 Partners to take over Everton from Moshiri's company.
They had agreed to own 94.1 per cent of the Toffees, and the change in ownership was set for the end of 2023.
However, 777 failed to meet the terms to satisfy the change, which also included failure to meet the Premier League's standards for approval.
As highlighted by finance expert Maguire on X this Tuesday, The Wall Street Journal have published an article reporting that 777 has now chosen a bankruptcy lender who previously accused the company of fraud.
Leadenhall Capital Partners previously accused 777 of alleged double-pledging collateral, claiming as much as £1.33billion in damages.
The company that bid for Everton in the past has now agreed to a £7.4million debtor-in-possession loan from Leadenhall to fund its Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
The deal can provide another £2.2m for winding the business down, and it carries a zero per cent interest rate.
Maguire wrote on his X: "777 Partners turns to a lender who previously accused the company of fraud. I know Everton fans [are] frustrated with current owners, but this would have been far, far worse."
He is suggesting that Everton fans should be somewhat grateful they are owned by the Friedkins.
£88m TFG reveal proves where Everton are at
The Friedkin Group have invested in Everton again this summer, like they did last year.
But whether or not David Moyes' team has been improved to the standard expected is up for debate.
The Friedkins spent £88m in total on new signings, and were prepared to splash another £40m on Folarin Balogun.
Money has been spent, but perhaps it's just enough to keep people quiet in the meantime.
Some even suggest that the Americans are only here for a short-term flip in profit, proven by Iliman Ndiaye's sale.
That could be the case, but either way, it's better that they are here than 777 Partners.
