Duncan Ferguson would be open to taking charge of Everton until May, according to Sky Sports news editor Alan Myers.

The Toffees are set to hold final talks over the appointment of a new manager on Friday before making a decision by the weekend.

Should the Scotsman be handed the job, he would have the support of the dressing room.

Via his personal Twitter account, Myers wrote, "I understand Duncan Ferguson would take the job for the rest of the season and has the support of the players."

Lampard best suited?

From the names it's been narrowed down to, Frank Lampard seems the best suited for the job.

Ferguson does not have a distinct footballing ideology that would get the fans excited.

He's surely admired by the Goodison Park faithful, but they can turn on him if they're not enjoying the matches and if their team is not winning games.

Everton

The other option is Vitor Pereira, who comes in with no experience in the Premier League.

He's also one of the default names to be linked with Everton whenever there is a vacancy.

This suggests that there may be some other factors influencing the decision, rather than him being picked on merit, which is no way to run a club.
