Could James Garner start for England vs Spain after perfect Everton admission?

James Garner was a late inclusion in the England squad this week.

Despite not getting the initial call, the Everton midfielder was quickly added to the squad by Thomas Tuchel after injuries.

With Declan Rice dropping out, several opportunities have opened for Garner in four upcoming fixtures.

England start against Spain on Saturday, before taking on Czechia twice and Croatia over the next three weeks in the Nations League.

Garner was called up by the Three Lions for the camp before the World Cup, but missed out on the final tournament call.

Now, he could be centre stage against the world champions.

With Jordan Pickford and Jarrad Branthwaite also selected, it's amazing to see an Everton contingent in the squad.

Pickford is almost guaranteed to start, but Branthwaite likely won't, leaving Garner as another hope.

The Daily Mail has stated that the midfielder is now "pushing" for a spot alongside Elliot Anderson.

It's said that Garner has caught the eye of Tuchel since his appointment, which saw him only narrowly miss out on North America.

Who is James Garner competing against?

The obvious answer would be Jude Bellingham.

But, the Real Madrid superstar has been used exclusively as a number 10 by Tuchel, so it depends what system he goes for at Wembley.

Outside of them, there are Myles Lewis-Skelley and Alex Scott, two you'd like to think are behind Garner for selection.

So, in short, it's a real possibility.

David Moyes has given him the opportunity of consistent football at Everton, and it's delivered them both the rewards.

Garner recently signed another new long-term contract with the Blues, and is on the international scene.

If he starts against Spain on top of that, it goes to show just what Everton can do for anybody.
