Brennan Johnson had some good moments away from Everton despite Portugal beating Wales on Thursday.

The forward started for Y Dreigiau on 24 September at the Estadio Jose Alvalade in Lisbon.

Cristiano Ronaldo's team, now managed by Jorge Jesus, secured a narrow 1-0 victory after Joao Felix's goal in the 22nd minute.

Johnson was one of Wales' main threats up front and came close to changing the complexion of the game against Portugal.

The Toffees' winger gave Ruben Dias and Renato Veiga a lot to think about throughout the game.

In the 74th minute, the 25-year-old attacker got in behind the opposition defence and hit the crossbar, but it just wasn't meant to be in the end.

Johnson's start to life at Hill Dickinson Stadium hasn't been the best.

The Toffees will surely be happy that the attacker is playing well for his national side and regaining some of his confidence during his international break.

Nia Jones, who plays for Swansea City Ladies, was impressed by Johnson's running power that eventually led to the opportunity.

The forward got in behind and looped the ball over the goalkeeper from an impossible angle, hitting the crossbar, but Portugal's defence cleared it.

Speaking live on BBC Two, Jones said, "Wow, look at this running. Direct running in behind. And that's what draws the attention. And he would've been onside. Does so well to loop it back over."

Thierno Barry is the only natural number nine at the Scottish manager's disposal, but he'll certainly be aware that the Frenchman can't be expected to play every game.

Johnson has featured in the number nine position at times for the Toffees this season already.

The winger's performance against Portugal proves that he can be a potent weapon against teams with high backlines.

Johnson can add a different dimension up front for the Merseyside outfit and it will be interesting to see whether he can find his feet in L3 after returning from Wales duty.

It just may take a bit of time for him to settle.
