David Moyes' Everton have been linked with a move to sign Hayden Hackney.

The Toffees will be well aware that their end to the season was unacceptable, and as a result, summer recruitment will be key to addressing it.

Sunderland achieved European qualification on their return to the top flight, while Everton missed out, again showcasing just how slow they are moving from a progression perspective.

Adding depth and quality to the midfield area will be a priority for the Merseysiders in the coming months.

And with Hackney linked with a move to Hill Dickinson, Moyes has the perfect chance to get one over his former club, as per the latest reports.

What's the latest on Hayden Hackney's future?

With Middlesbrough missing out on promotion back to the Premier League, the expectation is that Hackney will be on his way out.

Everton have been linked with a move for the midfielder, though they are not alone in their interest, with Man United also keen.

In fact, Michael Carrick is said to be prioritising a move for his former midfielder, with Scott Wilson having reported that he wants to see Man United at the front of the queue.

Hackney would be an excellent addition for Everton, and if Moyes can beat his former side to his arrival, then it would be the icing on the cake for the Scotsman.

What would Hackney bring to Everton?

Everton's current midfield options are limited at best, so Hackney's arrival would immediately bolster their depth.

However, there would also be a case for him to start, given the numbers he produced in the Championship last season.

Despite missing eight league games, Hackney created more chances than any other midfielder, while also managing 12 goal involvements.

Everton need more attacking quality from the deeper areas, and Hackney would certainly provide it.
