David Moyes to be furious as Premier League make official decision for Everton vs Ipswich Town

David Moyes will be one of the most unhappy in Everton's fixture against Ipswich Town..

The Blues and Tractor Boys have started the season in similar fashion, both accruing six points in the opening four games.

However, Everton have yet to lose a game, while Gary O'Neil's side have two defeats on their record.

As a newly promoted side, Ipswich are still one of the leading contenders for relegation, with Everton likely favourites for this clash.

With Moyes perhaps one man to be furious at the selections made by the Premier League.

The Premier League have made their appointments for matchweek five of the season.

Stuart Atwell has been tasked as the man in the middle of the park for Everton's home game against Ipswich

Wade Smith and Steve Meredith will be Atwell's assistant referees, with Ruebyn Ricardo selected as the fourth official.

In the VAR room, Andrew Kitchen will take charge over any contentious decision, with him being assisted by Josh Smith.

Everton will certainly be hoping nothing too controversial emerges, as Atwell has not had a great history of late with the Toffees.

The Stuart Atwell decision that 'amazed' David Moyes in all the wrong ways

Towards the end of the 2025-26 season, Atwell was involved in quite the controversial decision.

The Toffees were trailing West Ham 1-0 in the 84th minute on 25 April, 2026 and should have been awarded a penalty.

Mateus Fernandes handle the ball, but both the referee and VAR would wave it away as accidental.

As per BBC Sport, the Premier League's Key Match Incident panel would rule the referee and VAR both got it wrong.

And after the game, Moyes went on to say: "He punched the ball. It would have been harsh, but I'm amazed they haven't given it."

Everton went on to lose the game 2-1, but that penalty could have changed the outcome of the match.

The Toffees would then go on to fail to qualify for Europe as well.

So, the Scotsman may not be best pleased to see Atwell take centre stage once more against Everton.

However, Everton do have winning record with Atwell as referee in all competitions, with 14 wins, seven draws and 13 losses as per Transfermarkt.
