David Ornstein shares what Friedkins want from Moyes after Everton appointment

The Friedkin Group wants David Moyes to lay down the foundations for the long-term Everton project, according to David Ornstein.

Everton announced the return of Moyes on Saturday (11 January) via their official website to succeed Sean Dyche, who was dismissed hours before the 2-0 win against Peterborough United in the FA Cup on Thursday (9 January).

However, despite initial claims that Moyes would agree to take charge of the Blues until the summer [Graeme Bailey], he has signed a deal until 2027, and Ornstein revealed via The Athletic (11 January) how the ex-Toffees' boss fits into TFG's vision on Merseyside.

He wrote: "Moyes is viewed by TFG as the ideal manager to secure Everton’s Premier League status, which is the immediate priority before moving stadium to a state-of-the-art arena at Bramley-Moore Dock.

"The hierarchy also want the 61-year-old to lay the foundations for their longer-term ambitions."

While the circumstances surrounding Dyche's dismissal were controversial, to say the least, the supporters will be relieved to see a swift appointment has been made.

Moyes is undoubtedly the most successful Everton manager of the Premier League era for his efforts during his initial spell on Merseyside.

However, his return has led to split opinion among the fanbase, with some delighted at the prospect of Moyes back in the Goodison Park dugout, while others believe this is in a similar vein to Dyche - a manager brought in only to steady the ship.

Regardless, his track record at the Blues speaks for itself - in nine out of his 11 seasons, he finished inside the top half of the table and regularly competed in European competition.

Since leaving the Toffees, he has claimed the Europa Conference League trophy whilst at West Ham United - not only will he bring stability back to Goodison Park but he will also be eager to try his hand again in European competition.

Moyes may not be the flashiest name among those reportedly considered for the position; still, he knows Everton inside and out and more importantly already has a strong relationship with most of the supporters.

With a better structure and more financially sound owners than his previous spell, Moyes could be set for a more successful stay on Merseyside.
