Efan Ekoku believes that Everton deserved their penalty in the first half against Norwich.

The Toffees got back to winning ways with a decent performance and 2-0 scoreline against the Premier League's bottom side.

Andros Townsend opened the scoring in the first half from the spot after Ozan Kabak was found guilty of committing a foul inside the penalty area.

After much deliberation and looking at the monitor for clarification, referee David Coote pointed at the spot.

Discussing this decision on the Premier League world feed, Ekoku, a BT Sport pundit said, "That is lazy defending from the defender. The referee has got this one right.

"It was a really good penalty by Townsend too. Placed it well and was confident."

Right call

Kabak was late and his leg was outstretched which was enough contact for the referee to give the penalty.

He had a check for himself too just to ensure that it wasn't a soft decision and he got it absolutely spot on.

We've seen VAR being implemented wrongly in the past but this is precisely why it has been got into the game.

Often, referees are not sure of these game-changing decisions themselves and having technology along with another team of referees to rely on, is always beneficial.

In Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison's absence, it seems that Townsend is now the go to penalty taker.

It will be tough getting it off him when he's back and it's healthy competition to have at the club.
