Everton legend Duncan Ferguson could be in line to take on a new managergial role it has emerged.

The Scot has previously been part of the first-team staff with the Toffees, including acting as assistant manager to Carlo Ancelotti.

Ferguson, a legend with the Toffees as a player, has also had two interim spells in charge of Everton, including prior to Ancelotti's arrival.

Since departing the club, Ferguson has had spells in charge of Forest Green Rovers and Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

He was sacked by Inverness in October 2024 when the club went into administration, and he has been doing media work since.

However, it now looks as though Ferguson is ready to take on a new role after a surprise report emerged on Wednesday.

Where could Everton legend Duncan Ferguson be heading next?

Ferguson has become a prominent figure in the media over the last year or so.

He has been regular on Sky and ITV, working for the latter as part of their World Cup coverage, while also appearing on Gary Neville's Overlap channels.

However, the Belfast Telegraph has reported that Ferguson is now being considered to take over as manager of Glentoran.

The 23-time champions of Ireland are without a manager after Declan Devine was dismissed at the BetMcLean Oval back in September.

The report referred to the news as a "stunning development" and claimed it would be one of the biggest stories in Irish league history.

Cliftonville manager Jim Magilton, a former Premier League player, had previously been linked to the role but that appointment did not materialise.

Former Northern Ireland manager Ian Baraclough has also been in the frame, while Paddy McCourt has been overseeing things with Tim McCann.

But now it looks as though Ferguson could be in the frame for the top role.

A great opportunity for Duncan Ferguson

Ferguson is a hugely popular figure among the Everton fanbase.

A full-blooded striker during his time as a player over two spells, Ferguson gave everything he had every time he walked on the pitch.

Later on, he was a respected coach at Everton and twice stepped into the breach to help out when needed.

Things have not gone to plan yet as a number one, though he was unfortunate with the circumstances at Inverness.

Glentoran would be a great challenge, and if he is appointed to the rule there would be plenty of Toffees supporters wishing him all the best in his next venture.
