Roy Keane and Duncan Ferguson have clashed as Everton boss David Moyes continues to be linked with the Scotland job.

The Tartan Army are in need of a new head coach after the departure of Steve Clarke this week.

He decided to step away from his role after being dumped out of the World Cup in frustrating fashion.

A 3-0 defeat to Brazil was the end of the road for the 62-year-old who waved goodbye to the national team after seven years.

That leaves the role at Hampden Park open, with Moyes already named as an option by many fans.

The Scotland job has now sparked debate between Keane and Ferguson as Moyes was put forward by the Toffees fan favourite.

Duncan Ferguson wants Everton's David Moyes as Scotland manager

With the national team job coming up, it was always going to raise eyebrows surrounding the Blues' head coach.

He has previously spoken about his desire to manage his country and the opportunity is now on the table.

There is plenty of time for the Tartan Army to replace Clarke, but it seems clear that Moyes is a wanted man.

That is seemingly the feeling of Ferguson, who told Stick to Football that he wants a Scot in charge of the national team.

He said: "I like to see a Scottish fella managing Scotland."

That certainly didn't resonate with Keane, who hit back instantly, "Why? Does that guarantee success?"

The ex-Everton man wasn't caught out, replying: "It doesn't, no, but all the players have got to be Scottish, so how come the manager isn't Scottish? That's the way I look at it. My preference would be a Scottish manager."

Once again, the Irishman stood his ground, "Who then? Who's out there."

Ferguson then put forward the current Everton boss, saying: "I've got no idea. The only one I can think about is David Moyes, but he's in a job."

It's safe to say that the Toffees boss is the dream option for many, but could Big Dunc be tempted by the job himself?

Would Ferguson want to be Scotland manager?

If the 54-year-old wants a fellow Scot to be in charge of his country, why couldn't he take it on himself.

The former Everton star has put in multiple shifts as caretaker boss on Merseyside and was well-liked in the role.

Things didn't work out at Forest Green Rovers, but it could be different on the international stage.

Gary Neville, in a tongue-in-cheek manner on Stick to Football, suggested that he hopes Ferguson gets the job.

To which the Scot replied: "I'd sort them right out, that's for sure."

This was said in a jokey manner, but there is no doubt that he could go in and stir the pot with the Tartan Army.

It doesn't seem as if he wants the Scotland job, so it will certainly be interesting to see who takes that post.
