Everton are edging closer to finally announcing a second friendly of the summer.

The Toffees finished the campaign in frustrating fashion and are in need of change this summer.

There have already been plenty of transfer links that could see David Moyes strengthen his side.

As positive as that is, there is yet to be any true movement to prepare for the new campaign over the summer.

Just one pre-season friendly has been announced - a meeting with fellow Premier League side Newcastle United in Edinburgh - despite getting their preparations underway in mid-to-late July.

It now appears that an agreement is set to be sealed that will eventually see a second pre-season clash play out away from L3.

Everton in talks with Hamburg over pre-season friendly

With almost every other Premier League side having their summer plans already sorted, it may not be straight forward for the Blues to sort themselves out.

They may have landed on their feet somewhat as Hamburg finalise plans for their own pre-season.

German outlet Bild reported via their newspaper edition on Friday that Everton could be set to play a "blockbuster" friendly with the Bundesliga side on 1 August before the new campaign begins.

The Toffees sent a delegation to Volksparkstadion in the spring and held talks over a potentially historic first ever meeting between the two sides.

An agreement hasn't been finalised at this stage as Hamburg hunt for an opponent in what will be their final friendly of the summer.

Everton already snubbed pre-season tour abroad

The bizarre thing about the Toffees' pre-season so far is that nothing is planned despite the chance to set up a tour

That is thanks in part to last year's Premier League Summer Series in America.

Moyes oversaw defeats against West Ham and Bournemouth while also drawing with Manchester United.

That clearly didn't seek to benefit the Blues and they have decided to change how they operate, but that hasn't paid off at this stage.

A clash away to Hamburg could be a step in the right direction should an agreement be reached in the coming weeks.
