Everton player ratings vs Hull City: Maitland-Niles comically bad, 8/10 'shell-shocked' teammate steps up
Three weeks on from their 1-0 home win over Ipswich Town, David Moyes' side made the trip to Humberside.
Brennan Johnson had a goal ruled out for offside in the first half after VAR intervened and asked Michael Salisbury to check the pitchside monitor.
After a largely uneventful first half that incident aside, the second half burst into life when Joe Gelhardt opened the scoring three minutes in.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Thierno Barry turned the game on its head, but Mohamed Belloumi equalised 16 minutes from time.
After an eventful contest at MKM Stadium, Goodison News rates each Everton player out of 10.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles twice costs Everton
Ainsley Maitland-Niles looked comically out of his depth - and that is despite assisting Dewsbury-Hall's goal.
The right-back deserves credit for that delivery, but it was all undone by two moments to forget either side.
First, a dreadful touch allowed Gelhardt to give Hull the lead early in the second half.
Maitland-Niles then went on to top that with a comically bad piece of defensive play for Hull's second goal.
He was far too casual when attempting to cut out a simple ball out wide to Sorba Thomas, which the hosts took full advantage of.
Moyes took him off moments later to perhaps spare him from any further blushes.
Thierno Barry changes the narrative
Barry missed a sitter in the second half from a chance that looked easier to score than miss.
That left him "shell-shocked", as Don Goodman put it on Sky Sports.
Everton fans have become far too accustomed to seeing this from Barry, which is not ideal when he is Moyes' only striker.
But full credit to Barry because he took his chance - the toughest of the few he had - superbly to put Everton temporarily ahead.
The miss aside, he was a nuisance up top and showed great character to make his hard work pay off.
Indeed, as per Squawka, no player has bettered the 10 aerial duels won by Barry against Hull in a Premier League game this season.
