Everton picked up their worst result of the season on Tuesday as they crashed out of the Carabao Cup to Wolves at Molineux.

It was an awful performance from Everton, as they struggled to create anything throughout the match.

The Carabao Cup was a real opportunity for Everton to end their trophy drought. However, the FA Cup is now the only real chance the Toffees have of doing this in the current campaign.

As a result, David Moyes has received plenty of criticism for his role in the defeat.

Michael Ball: Everton’s attitude way off for Carabao Cup tie 

Going into the tie, Moyes decided to make wholesale changes against Wolves, despite the potential to go into the fourth round.

Stars such as Jack Grealish, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Jordan Pickford were dropped in favour of out-of-form players such as Dwight McNeil and Thierno Barry.

This gamble clearly did not pay off, with few players putting in a credible performance.

As a result, Everton have now crashed out of the Carabao Cup in the third round for the 10th time in 15 years.

Now, former Toffee Michael Ball has slammed Moyes and Everton for their attitude towards the competition.

He said via X on 23 September: “Attitude way off it from the start tonight from players and the team selection. 

“So disappointed for the thousands fans who travelled to witness that type of performance. 

“A team struggling at the foot of the table with 5 losses, and we think we could just turn up and let them dictate the tempo and still go through.”

To go down to Wolverhampton on a Tuesday night is no easy feat for many fans. 

Yet, those who made it to the game were not rewarded, and instead were treated to an intitled performance from Moyes’ side.

Why they thought they could just roll up and go into the next round was baffling. Wolves are still a Premier League club with plenty of internationals who were desperate for a result.

Moyes has made few errors since his return, but his decision to name a rotated XI is by far the worst, and he should be apologising to the travelling fans for his mistake.
