Graeme Souness wants Everton to have a positive season in their final year at Goodison Park.

The Toffees begin their last dance with the Grand Old Lady on Saturday (17 August) with their Premier League clash against Brighton.

Former Liverpool man, Souness has wished Sean Dyche's side the best ahead of the campaign in a column for the Daily Mail on 17 August (page four).

He said: "It would be wonderful for Everton to give their long-suffering supporters a fitting farewell to Goodison Park.

"It is a special place. one of two iconic grounds in the city, and one I've always had affection."

Everton set to begin last season at Goodison Park

There have been many iconic moments at Goodison over the years but now the club enters their final 19 league matches at their home ground.

It is safe to say that excitement is building over the new Bramley Moore Dock stadium which is currently coming together slowly.

For now, supporters can forget about the new build and focus on enjoying their last year in the iconic arena.

This begins with an opening-day Premier League clash against Brighton who aren't going to be a pushover in any sort of way.

The Toffees ended last season in positive form and will be keen to maintain that moving into a new season.

With the Seagulls manager, Fabian Hürzeler preparing for his first campaign in charge in England, it could prove to be the perfect time to face them.

Dyche will be keen to get started with a win and give Goodison the goodbye the Grand Old Lady deserves.
