Greg O'Keeffe says Farhad Moshiri has made 'daft decisions' at Everton
January was a month of turmoil like no other at Everton with Rafael Benitez being sacked, Frank Lampard taking over and five signings made.
Club owner Farhad Moshiri has been the subject of a large amount of the blame for the chaos the Toffees found themselves in for much of the transfer window.
Lampard was eventually announced as the club's new boss late in the window and managed to rush through two signings on deadline day in Donny van de Beek and Dele Alli.
The Athletic's Greg O'Keeffe has been one of the busier journalists this past month as a result and he couldn't hold back on Moshiri while outlining the first thing Lampard needs to do as manager.
“Moshiri has made some daft decisions,” O’Keeffe said on The Athletic Football Podcast, “He’s not listened to the council of people around him urging him to make more straightforward, well thought out, streamlined decisions and not just managerial but in terms of the structure of the club in general.
“Lampard needs to hit the ground running and get points because it’s not quite crisis stations yet in terms of the bottom of the table for Everton but it could easily happen if he can’t spark a quick turnaround in the confidence of the players.”
Forget January
It was a hectic month, but now the club, its manager, players and fans, need to forget it ever happened and look to the future and keep the club in the Premier League.
Things aren't looking as rosy as they were a few weeks ago for the Toffees as defeat to Aston Villa in Duncan Ferguson's only game in caretaker charge has seen them drop closer to the bottom three.
Newcastle United and Norwich City have both started to find some form which has kept Everton firmly in the fight to stay up and Lampard needs to change things fast.
The first test for him comes in the FA Cup at home to Brentford which is something of a free hit for him to try out his players and see who comes through in flying colours.
The initial job after that though is just to accumulate points as much as possible and leave the relegation fight to the clubs below them.
