How Thomas Tuchel has just opened door for James Garner with latest England comments
Everton midfielder James Garner may be in line for a rare England start on Tuesday evening.
Garner's only start for the Three Lions so far came in a 1-1 friendly draw against Uruguay in March.
The 25-year-old's other three caps for England have come as a substitute, including two cameo appearances this window.
Garner continues to catch the eye for England when given limited opportunities to showcase his talents.
That has not so far translated to starts, although that is understandable given the competition for starting spots.
However, that may now change in England's final Nations League match this window against Czechia.
What has Thomas Tuchel said on England selection vs Czechia?
England thrashed Croatia 7-0 on Saturday in their finest performance under Tuchel so far.
That followed a 2-0 win over Czechia in Prague, but England did lose 3-2 to Spain in their opening group match.
A fourth game in 10 days will likely take its toll on Tuchel's squad, which the German addressed in his pre-match press conference on Monday.
Tuchel accepted changes will have to be made on the back of Saturday's match, with the England boss saying it "will be a mix" of players who started in Rijeka and new faces.
That opens the door for Garner, who has played a combined 40 minutes so far in the autumn fixtures.
Even more so following Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott's withdrawal ahead of the Czechia game due to injury.
What about Jarrad Branthwaite's England chances?
Jarrad Branthwaite is also away with England this window, as is Jordan Pickford, who it is already confirmed will start at Wembley in midweek.
The centre-back got one minute off the bench against Spain and was an unused substitute against Czechia and Croatia.
Tuchel will want to give minutes to as many players as possible, even if this is a competitive fixture rather than a friendly.
England's defence is undoubtedly a weak point, so it would make sense to at least see what Branthwaite can do.
David Moyes will simply want all his players to return injury free, but it would be great to see Garner and Branthwaite given a chance from the off.
