Jamie O'Hara in disbelief at 'disgusting' footage from Liverpool 1-0 Everton

Everton fell to defeat away to Liverpool on Wednesday night, but it wasn't the scoreline that caught the attention of Jason Cundy and Jamie O'Hara.

David Moyes' side battled hard at Anfield, but were left empty-handed in a 1-0 defeat against Liverpool, with Diogo Jota scoring the only goal of the game.

Everton failed to pose any real attacking threat in the game and were unable to register a single shot on target, though their actual performance caused trouble for the league leaders.

However, one incident in particular caught the attention of many, with O'Hara refusing to believe what he saw happen at Anfield.

James Tarkowski challenge makes the headlines in Liverpool v Everton

Aside from the score, the only real incident that got people talking was the challenge on Alexis Mac Allister from James Tarkowski.

After just 13 minutes, VAR was called into action after the Toffees defender appeared to leave one on Mac Allister in what you could certainly describe as a full-blooded challenge, though the outcome of that check had O'Hara and Cundy scratching their head.

Speaking via talkSPORT (2 April), Cundy started by saying: "The biggest talking point is the Tarkowski disgusting challenge. There's no place for that in the modern game, it’s a terrible tackle. Mac Allister is a lucky boy."

To which O'Hara responded: "Can’t believe it’s not a red card. What is VAR doing? What’s the point of VAR? Seriously."

Tarkowski will certainly count himself fortunate not to have received his marching order in such an early stage of the game, with the magnitude of the encounter potentially playing a minor role in the decision made.

Everton must regain confidence for final run-in

Everton have no fears of relegation in reality, despite it being mathematically possible, in theory.

However, form and momentum are still as important as ever, despite that, with the Toffees needing to finish the season strongly ahead of their move to Bramley-Moore.

At this stage, a top 10 finish is achievable, and given the start to the season they had, it would be a showcase of the progression they have made under Moyes.

Several players will be playing for their future, while Moyes will be building a picture in his head as to who will be in his starting 11 for the new campaign.
