Mark Schwarzer hails Tyrique George as 'exceptional' after Everton teammate let him down vs Tottenham

Mark Schwarzer was impressed with Tyrique George's performance for Everton in their 0-0 draw to Tottenham on Saturday.

The Blues held Spurs for a draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but the game could have gone either way.

David Moyes' side sustained plenty of pressure in the early knockings of the contest, but grew into the first half as the game went on.

Both teams had big chances in the second period, with both Brennan Johnson and Thierno Barry coming close for the Blues.

Jordan Pickford came up with some important saves for the visitors, while Jarrad Branthwaite, Vitalii Mykolenko and James Tarkowski all defended with bravery.

But Everton's best chance of scoring a goal may have faded after George was taken off in the 65th minute, especially when looking at the chance he created for Barry.

George should have arguably stayed on the pitch rather than Johnson, who could have won the game for Everton.

That's not to say Jack Grealish was poor when he came on, but more that Moyes needs to find a way to play both from now on.

George almost grabbed an assist after lofting a ball into the box for Barry, who was denied what could have been the match-winning goal.

While speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Schwarzer broke down the piece of attacking play, but was mainly mesmerised by George.

He said: "George's run down the left-hand side was exceptional; Archie Gray thinks he's got him under control.

"George just slides past him and whips that ball to the far post, and [Antonin] Kinsky makes himself big, and it just smacks him in the head."

Schwarzer wasn't the only man impressed with the 20-year-old, as teammate James Tarkowski had his say after the match.

Everton are still unbeaten in four Premier League games so far this season, and will be keen for their run to continue.

While speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Tarkowski claimed that George is the best example of the talent Everton brought in this summer.

The centre-back said his teammate has come back looking even more "strong" and "fit" than he did before, which most Evertonians would agree with.

George is now starting to look like a wise £20million investment, as it looks like Chelsea have let a top-class talent walk for peanuts in this market.
