Everton are still on the hunt for their next manager at Goodison Park weeks after Carlo Ancelotti packed his bags and left.

The Toffees looked set to appoint Rafa Benitez, but the Spaniard's name has caused huge controversy around Merseyside.

Twist and turns are coming daily, with Paulo Fonseca's move to Spurs also collapsing, something which has raised eyebrows.

Liverpool Echo journalist Philip Kirkbride has been asked by fans if that collapse could see Fonseca come into consideration at Goodison Park.

His response made it seem quite clear that the former Roma man isn't set for a role in the Premier League any time soon.

"I was told that Everton interviewed Fonseca in the summer of 2018 but decided he wasn't right for the club," he said.

Not right.

If Fonseca was interviewed before Ancelotti was employed but wasn't right for the club, it is almost impossible things have changed in three years.

Spurs obviously couldn't hand him the demands he wanted, or the other way round, something that won't bear well with other clubs.

Fonseca managed over 100 games at Roma and Shakhtar Donetsk, having more success in Ukraine than in Italy.

The 48-year-old has impressive numbers, including over two points per game at Shakhtar, although the league is clearly less difficult.

The Toffees board have numerous options available to them, but it appears as though Fonseca isn't one of those at this moment.
