Square pegs in round holes simply won't cut it anymore, Everton have to act now for David Moyes
Beto, Thierno Barry, Harvey Foster and Dwight McNeil were all on target for David Moyes' men.
It was a solid start to match preparations for the 2026/27 campaign, with plenty of the squad getting some useful minutes in their legs.
Things will continue at a pace now, as Moyes looks to get his squad match ready ahead of the Premier League season opener with Crystal Palace on 22 August.
But there is one glaring issue that Everton simply have to fix for Moyes as soon as possible in this transfer window.
David Moyes has to get creative for Everton
It is absolutely no secret that Everton have had issues at right-back now for some time.
The issue is now exacerbated because veteran Seamus Coleman has departed the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Nathan Patterson will surely be allowed to leave if a viable option arrives for him to quit the Toffees.
And it is becoming increasingly obvious that Jake O'Brien is too good of an option at centre-back to be shunted out of position to fill a void.
Indeed, against Dundee Moyes opted to use Merlin Rohl at right-back, something that might not have happened if James Garner - who has filled in there before - had been available.
Ultimately, though, all these means lead to the exact same end, which is the fact Moyes is constantly filling a round hole with square pegs.
Frankly, it is something that Everton simply cannot continue to do if they are serious about pushing for European football next season.
Rohl is a versatile player, who can operate centrally or on the right in midfield, but you cannot head into the season with the 24-year-old as an option to play at full-back.
It is a problem position and one that Everton have to solve immediately, they cannot allow this to be an issue during the season again.
Who have Everton been linked to?
The good news is that Everton are wise to the glaring issue.
Indeed, several players have been linked to Everton to fill the troublesome right-back role.
Djed Spence has really impressed with England at the World Cup, and the Tottenham full-back is reportedly on the Toffees' radar.
Brooke Norton-Cuffy has long-since been linked to Everton, and the 22-year-old Genoa right-back is said to be on their radar once again.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka is also a reported target following West Ham's relegation to the Championship.
The work is being done to identify a target, but Everton have to get a shift on now to finally give Moyes a viable option there.
