Thierno Barry scored what proved to be the only goal of the game with 11 minutes on the clock.

The 23-year-old diverted James Tarkowski's drive into the back of the net for his fifth goal of the campaign.

Barry had a second goal for Everton ruled out due to Brennan Johnson being in an offside position.

Everton were good value for a second after that, but chances went begging.

And had the Tractor Boys done so, many would have pointed the finger of blame at the usually reliable Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

The midfielder squandered a glorious chance with the game still poised at 1-0, which Evertonian Smith could barely believe.

"Oh my goodness," she said. "They've had two really good opportunities, Everton.

"[Tyler] Dibling had a great opportunity. After some great build-up play, he cuts in and it's a good save.

"He then cuts in, picks out Dewsbury-Hall and he has to score or at least hit the target."

That failure to convert from close range, after good work from Dibling, thankfully did not come back to haunt Everton.

Everton fans have every right to get excited about a possible European challenge this season.

The Toffees fell short last season after drifting away, but David Moyes will not let that happen again.

The Scotsman is continuing to keep Everton more than competitive, despite the lack of investment.

However, Opta's supercomputer still has Everton to finish mid-table in 13th.

Everton fans will dispute that, especially with Ipswich predicted to finish four places higher.

If anything, Moyes will just use that as even more motivation to keep Everton where they are in the table.
