Thomas Tuchel and Everton star Jordan Pickford were involved in a heated row in England's 4-2 win over Croatia.

The Three Lions eventually overcame their opposition in the World Cup opener but it was not without drama.

Harry Kane gave England the lead twice, but goals from Martin Baturina and Petar Musa got the Blazers back into the game.

Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford secured all three points for Tuchel's side in the Group L contest.

The former Chelsea manager was not impressed with something which the Toffees star did.

That led to a 25-word blast from the German, and Pickford could not hold his reaction back.

What did Thomas Tuchel say to Jordan Pickford?

Tuchel lambasted the Hill Dickinson Stadium ace for a misplaced pass in the first half of the match.

The 32-year-old played the ball in the wrong direction and implied that he was inbalanced, but Tuchel was having none of it and launched into a rant.

Geoff Shreeves, sideline reporter for FOX News, witnessed the incident and he said: "Just now Jordan Pickford was on his left side and off balance and still picked up.

"Thomas Tuchel was straight out to the touchline and said 'no, put it out to the right-back, you don't go that side.'

"Pickford had a little go back and Tuchel was not impressed. He told him 'you know what you're supposed to do, do as I told you'."

Everton: Jordan Pickford has mixed bag in England World Cup opener despite 'instrumental' role

What next for Everton star Pickford and England?

Pickford needs to rebound from what many have considered a shaky performance in the opening game of the tournament, although Harry Maguire did not agree with that assessment.

He has proven his reliability for his nation on multiple occasions, so his ability should not come into question.

He has performed admirably at European Championships and World Cups before, so we know what he is capable of, when the tournament reaches the business end.

He will be hoping for positive showings against Ghana and Panama, and for England to seal passage into the knockout stages, when it really matters.

Pickford and his teammates will hoping to reach the final at MetLife Stadium on 19 July.

They need to step up their performances if they are to do that, though, as while they ultimately won, it was not the most convincing display, especially in the opening 45 minutes.

Despite the spat between the boss and the Blues star, there is little chance of him losing his place, given what is at stake this summer, the nation are trying to win the World Cup and Pickford is their best chance between the sticks.
