Thomas Tuchel may just have done David Moyes a huge Everton favour with James Garner
Thomas Tuchel gave Everton midfielder James Garner more minutes for England against Croatia on Saturday.
The Three Lions dismantled Slaven Bilic's team, beating them 7-0 away from home at Stadion HNK Rijeka.
While the Toffees midfielder started on the bench, he came on for the final 20 minutes after replacing Bournemouth's Alex Scott.
Garner's cameo saw him knock the ball around for England and keep possession, as Tuchel's team had already done most of the damage to Croatia.
The 25-year-old's versatility was also on show as he played at left-back after Myles Lewis-Skelly replaced Lewis Hall.
Tuchel has certainly done David Moyes a favour by getting the midfielder used to a position he doesn't play often.
Why James Garner will be key on Everton return
Vitalii Mykolenko has returned to Everton from Ukraine national duty to recover from a fitness issue.
The left-back has been a pivotal part of the Toffees' starting lineup this season, playing every minute in the Premier League.
In the absence of Mykolenko, Garner can surely be called upon to play at left-back after doing so a few times last season.
Adam Aznou joined Malaga on loan in the summer, leaving Moyes without cover for the Ukraine international in the squad.
England face Czechia next at Wembley Stadium in the final game of the international break and it will be interesting to see if Tuchel deploys the Merseyside outfit's midfielder at left-back again.
Why David Moyes is certain of James Garner inevitability
Garner was subject of interest from Chelsea on deadline day, but Everton rejected the approach.
The Toffees lost some important players in the transfer window and the midfielder's departure would've been a bitter blow.
Speaking about Garner last season, Moyes said: "He's been fantastic since I came in. I didn't realise how good he was."
The Scottish manager is well aware of the former Manchester United ace's qualities and his breakthrough with England will only boost his reputation among top clubs across Europe.
It wouldn't be surprising to see the midfielder move to a top team in the foreseeable future if he continues to perform at a high level.
Garner has a contract until 2030 in Merseyside, but a big-money exit seems inevitable given his current form.
