Add to that the sale of Iliman Ndiaye to Manchester City for what many thought was undervalued, and it was a shocker.

It could have been so much worse too, with Chelsea making a very late push for James Garner at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

After the drama with Harrison Armstrong and Nottingham Forest, this could have been the final straw for David Moyes and Co.

What happened with Chelsea and James Garner?

After Man City signed Enzo Fernandez, Chelsea went in for Lamine Camara of Monaco, but that didn't work out.

It turns out that he wasn't the only central midfielder approached.

Bobble has reported via Instagram that Chelsea made a late play for Garner, valuing him at £65million.

It's said that the approach was rejected out of hand, with the midfielder also currently happy on Merseyside.

Everton have only been left with 18 senior players after their incompetence at the end of the window, so this move was simply impossible.

If earlier in the summer, it wouldn't have been a surprise to anybody if they allowed Garner to leave for Chelsea.

How have Everton fans reacted to transfer saga?

Simply put, not very well.

It's completely justified too, with the Friedkins and Angus Kinnear specifically, spouting nonsense just weeks prior.

Speaking about late targets coming available and the promise of significant signings, only for none of that to happen.

Knowing you want a striker but waiting until the final day, allowing Beto to leave before and then seeing Balogun walk away is nothing short of a disgrace.

They would have sold Armstrong too, a home-grown talent who knows what it means to be blue, if the fans hadn't stepped in.

It's a complete disgrace, and something needs to change immediately.
