Everton are reaping the rewards from sticking by Thierno Barry.

The striker endured a patchy debut season for the Toffees after making a £27million move from Villarreal in July of 2025.

The 23-year-old was constantly in and out of the team, competing against Beto, but the latter was given the main responsibilities towards the back end of last season.

However, David Moyes saw a change in Barry during pre-season, one that's clearly given the Blues confidence that they can survive until January with just one centre-forward.

The French-Guinean is up to seven goal contributions in all competitions already, and is showing no signs of slowing down after his goal at Hull.

But what is Barry's secret behind what is starting to look like a dramatic turn in form at Everton compared to last season?

Expert reveals key Thierno Barry training detail

Barry played for SK Beveren from 2022 to 2023 before moving to Basel, and established himself as a hot prospect with the Belgian side.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, former Beveren player and current expert analyst for Belgian regional station TV Oost, Bart Van Den Eede revealed what Barry was like in training and the habit that helped him get into form.

He said: "In training, it was amazing to see how focused he was on finishing. He would try to recreate every missed chance ten times over to learn from it.

"Scoring goals is always at the forefront of his mind. His immense eagerness to learn, his perseverance, and the fact that he’s a great guy in the dressing room have brought him to where he is today.

"While he squandered quite a few chances during the pre-season, things started to click once the league campaign got underway. He really exploded into form when Dieumerci Mbokani joined him up front.

"Suddenly, his finishing improved significantly—I think because he felt less pressure on his shoulders. After all, Mbokani was the one everyone expected to score the goals, not Barry.

"It became apparent that he has a great instinct for positioning himself inside the box and often makes himself available as a target in tight spaces, frequently making excellent runs in behind the defence. He can score with both his strong right foot and his head."

While this was a training detail from his time with Beveren, the same mentality has already been on show since he joined Everton.

How Barry's obsession has always been there to see

Everton fans have already learnt that Barry is an emotional character, which can sometimes go one of two ways in football.

He's clearly enjoying his football right now and is in his best form for Everton, but he hasn't always had a smile on his face.

Footage recently emerged of the former Beveren youngster being visibly upset during training, beating himself up for missing chances.

However, it also showed that Barry is willing to pick himself up and go again.

Barry is continuing to shine for the Blues, and will hope to keep proving the doubters wrong.
