Merlin Rohl has been used somewhat as a swiss army knife by Everton this season.

The midfielder has seen game time at right-back, while against Chelsea he was used as a winger.

That versatility is an excellent asset to have, as it opens the door for more routes into the starting XI.

However, Rohl's long-term future at Hill Dickinson Stadium is currently unknown, with David Moyes yet to provide any hint of him locking down a singular position.

Despite that uncertainty, it seems there are a few people at Finch Farm that believe he can thrive in a specific role.

With that position even being tipped to push him closer to making his Germany debut.

Everton's Germany expectation for Merlin Rohl

The last international break would have been the perfect time for Rohl to make his Germany debut.

Jurgen Klopp had named two squads, consisting of over 40-plus players over the four-game window.

The timing of his injury was ultimately cruel in that regard.

However, in the November international break, his odds are slightly lower with only two fixtures on the horizon, and likely just one squad named this time around.

Rohl will hope that he can push his way into the set-up, with noise in L3 believing he can do so in defence.

Internally at Everton, right-back seems to be the position that Rohl is being tipped to feature in long-term.

According to The Athletic, insiders at Finch Farm expected the German to receive a national team call-up as a fullback in the last international break.

Injury would rule him out of the break, but Everton still "think he can become a full international" operating in his new role.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles trend is concerning Everton, David Moyes' actions prove it

Rohl can make Everton right-back position his own

Despite the arrival of Ainsley Maitland-Niles, the right-back position at Hill Dickinson Stadium is still up for grabs.

The Englishman has failed to impress defensively since making the move, although his wonder strike against Manchester United does still stick out.

Rohl, though, was moved into the right-back position after 55 minutes against Chelsea, showing Moyes may not have full trust in his summer signing.

If the German can push his way into a starting spot in defence, that could push him one step closer to achieving his international dreams.

And fulfilling the expectations set by those around him at Everton.
