Why Everton fans are being shafted after Newcastle United announcement
Everton fans have every right to be furious after a new announcement for their trip to Newcastle United.
The Blues will open November with a clash against the Magpies, who they have just beaten 3-1 in their pre-season preparations.
The next time the sides face off, the season will be firmly underway and we will have a better understanding of their potential ceiling.
The fixture has been moved for Sky Sports coverage, after originally being scheduled for 31 October.
The match at St James' Park will take place on 2 November, which is a Monday night.
It will be an 8pm kick-off, which leaves one particular issue for fans to deal with.
Why Everton fans are being let down by Newcastle change
With the 8pm kick-off, the match will end around 10:45pm and that is without any additional time factored in.
If a significant amount of time is added on, either at the end of the first or second halves, it could lead to issues.
Newcastle train station is around 10 to 15 minutes away from the stadium, so it could be a close call.
The last two trains are both at 22:41, but take a total of seven hours and 40 minutes or eight hours and 51 minutes.
This is due to connections needing to be made, which is not possible without a layover.
That means supporters are being shafted and will find if difficult if they are travelling by rail.
Of course, those travelling by car will likely be able to make the journey without many issues, albeit playing on a Monday night potentially means taking two days off work.
What is Everton's recent away record vs Newcastle?
Everton have reason to be positive about the visit to Tyneside, they are unbeaten in their last three visits.
Last season, they secured a 3-2 win with Thierno Barry notching a late winner.
In the 2024-25 campaign, it was a 1-0 win away from home, through a Carlos Alcaraz header.
The previous season, they secured a 1-1 draw, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin cancelling out an Alexander Isak goal.
Their last loss at the Magpies' stadium came in the 2022-23 season, it was 1-0 and Miguel Almiron scored the only goal of the game.
Moyes and his side can take that into the next game, alongside what they learned from the Murrayfield clash and hopefully continue their decent run.
The Blues have reasons to be encouraged by the on-pitch action, even if they may face a hard time off it in terms of getting back.
