Everton enjoyed a morale-boosting pre-season victory over Newcastle United on Wednesday.

The Toffees continued preparations for the upcoming Premier League season against the Magpies at Murrayfield in Edinburgh.

David Moyes' men ran out 3-1 winners in what is their penultimate warm-up fixture before the Premier League season opener with Crystal Palace on 22 August.

Thierno Barry, Iliman Ndiaye (penalty), and Tyrique George were all on target, before Harvey Barnes responded late on for Newcastle.

The Everton faithful were enjoying themselves in the Scottish capital, watching their team build up some momentum for the new campaign.

And supporters had some light-hearted jibes for their Newcastle supporters late on in the game.

What were Everton fans chanting at Newcastle United supporters?

There was plenty for Moyes to enjoy about his side's performance as they work towards being ready for the Palace fixture.

It was refreshing to see against top-flight opposition this close to the start of the campaign, and hopefully it is something Everton take into Saturday's clash with Lille at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

George's goal in the 73rd minute preceded chants of "ole" from the travelling Everton contingent.

But, as reported by the Liverpool Echo, the Toffees fans also gleefully chanted "cheerio, cheerio, cheerio" to the Newcastle supporters as they trudged out of the ground.

It was nice to see a feelgood factor the Everton fans who had made the trip to Murrayfield.

However, there is still work that needs to be done before the season gets underway in a couple of weeks.

What do Everton still need this transfer window?

It might sound like a broken record, but the one glaring issue that still sticks out like a sore thumb is the right-back position.

Nathan Patterson did get a run out against Newcastle, but it is abundantly clear that Moyes does not fancy the Scotland international.

Jake O'Brien has filled in there in the past, but he is not a viable long-term solution to the problem area.

The likes of Alistair Johnston, Djed Spence, Daniel Munoz, and Kyle Walker have been linked with Hill Dickinson Stadium, and Everton need to get a move on there.

Another wide player might also be on Moyes' wish list, with a return for Jack Grealish still desired.

Another striker had also been on the agenda, though Barry's decent pre-season form might negate that wish a little.
