As Wayne Rooney admits he wants Everton job, could the Friedkins sack David Moyes this season?

Wayne Rooney will always be welcome back at Everton.

The Evertonian was present last season as the Toffees opened Hill Dickinson Stadium, and also when they waved goodbye to Goodison.

Known for his explosion onto the scene in blue in the Premier League, he went on to become an all-time great at Manchester United.

Unfortunately for him, that hasn't translated into management.

In a world full of David Moyes', he has struggled to ever get past the Championship and succeed at that level.

But, the Everton job will always remain the ultimate carrot.

What has Wayne Rooney said about Everton job?

In short, it's somewhat of a dream role.

Rooney has managed Plymouth, Birmingham and Derby already, but has never gone beyond that level.

Compare that to Frank Lampard, who has already been at Everton, Chelsea and now Coventry, and it's world's apart.

So much so, that Rooney admits doubts over a return to management in the future right now.

Speaking via talkSPORT, the ex-striker did reveal that there are two jobs he would consider, and it's no surprise.

"I doubt it, again I know I’ve done four difficult jobs," he said.

"The only way I’d go back in any capacity would be Everton or Manchester United, but that’s very unlikely."

Could the Friedkins actually sack David Moyes?

There is somewhat of an uncertain atmosphere around the pair.

Shockingly, Moyes recently revealed that he's never actually spoken to any of the Friedkins, despite them owning the club for the entirety of his second spell.

In basic terms, that is unforgivable from the owners.

With communication likely through Angus Kinnear, it's no surprise that the transfer window was somewhat of a complete farce with the failed signing of Folarin Balogun.

On top of that, Moyes wasn't happy when it was suggested by the Friedkins it was a failure to miss out on Europe last season.

Add all of this together, and it would be absolutely zero surprise to see Moyes either walk away or be sacked, regardless of what happens on the pitch.

As for Rooney replacing him? Now that would be a surprise.

And definitely one that would leave fans asking yet more questions of the Friedkins and their ultimate ambitions.
