Brennan Johnson looks set to bolster Everton's attacking options in the coming days.

The Wales forward is set to arrive from Crystal Palace in a deal that will see Dwight McNeil move in the opposite direction, with both players reportedly having medicals on Monday.

Johnson only made the switch to Selhurst Park from Tottenham Hotspur back in the January transfer window.

However, the 25-year-old failed to score in 26 appearances across all competitions for the Eagles.

David Moyes clearly thinks Johnson would be a good fit for his system, though, and would provide an option on the right flank.

Former Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has also previously hinted at what Moyes will like about Johnson, and his words suggest why he will be could be a good signing for Everton.

What did Ange Postecolou say about Brennan Johnson?

Johnson may have struggled at Palace, but he did enjoy a decent spell for Spurs under Postecoglou.

Indeed, during the 2024-25 campaign, the former Nottingham Forest winger scored 18 goals in 51 games across all competitions - including in the Europa League final against Manchester United.

Two of those goals that campaign arrived in a 3-1 win over Southampton in April 2025.

Speaking after that game, Postecoglou made some comments that hint at what Moyes will like about him.

In quotes reported by BBC Sport, he said: "He's important for us. As a wide player, there aren't many around that are a constant goal threat like he is.

"With Brennan, he's always in the areas we need him to be. He's probably one of the most disciplined players we have in terms of making sure he's always in the right positions and that's why he gets his goals.

"There have been times this season when his form has suffered because of the team more than anything else.

"I think like we played in the first half, Brennan becomes a really important player for us as we're a constant threat, breaking lines [and] making half-space runs."

What can we take from Postecoglou's words on Johnson?

What we can glean from this is two really important things for what Moyes likes in his attacking players.

Firstly, Postecoglou spoke glowingly about Johnson's discipline and workrate, which are two absolute musts for Moyes.

Second, he also noted how Johnson is committed to being in the right areas in the box, which will be crucial for the more direct style enjoyed by Moyes.

The scepticism of signing a player who failed to score in the second half of the previous campaign is understandable.

But sometimes, players just are a better fit at one club than they are at another.

Johnson will bring pace and directness to Everton's frontline.

If Moyes can just eke out some consistency and Johnson can find his form in front of goal, then this move might just work out well for all parties.
