When Brennan Johnson medical could happen as Everton advance transfer
Everton are closing in on the signing of Crystal Palace star Brennan Johnson.
David Moyes has made no secret of his desire for several more signings, and he's close to getting his latest through the door.
Johnson became Crystal Palace's record signing last season, but failed to make any sort of impact under Oliver Glasner.
Now, with Pierre Sage in charge, the Wales international is still set to leave Selhurst Park without another chance.
Despite the differing finances between the two players, it appears that Everton may have pulled off a blinder.
What deal is likely for Brennan Johnson at Everton?
When a swap deal was first mentioned between McNeil and Johnson, many thought it would be complicated.
Despite Palace signing the winger for £35million, they want him gone.
Now, Paul Joyce of the Times has reported that a deal is progressing between the two Premier League clubs quickly.
It's said any transfer would be a straight exchange, with no real mention of added fees on top of that for McNeil to go the other way.
The newspaper reports on its website that medicals could happen as soon as Monday.
Brennan Johnson must rediscover this form at Everton
There is definitely still a player somewhere in Johnson, he just needs someone to unlock that for him.
Moyes could be that man, although his track record with winger signings hasn't been too good on Merseyside.
Johnson was a different man at Tottenham, especially when it came to those European nights that everybody so desperately wants at the Hill Dickinson.
In 2024-25 when Spurs lifted the Europa League, he scored the winning goal in the final against Man United, as well as four others on the way there.
He also scored 11 Premier League goals that season, and it will be up to Moyes to find the player that has cost £85m so far in transfers alone.
For that to happen, he has to start him regularly.
But, with Jack Grealish set to re-sign, Iliman Ndiaye going nowhere and Tyler Dibling and Tyrique George available, it won't be easy.
We could see a new system next season, playing one of those centrally.
Either way, the risk is minimal for Everton, who will hope to secure this appearent upgrade within days.
