Christian Kofane could be leaving Bayern Leverkusen in the winter after Everton made an offer earlier this year.

The 20-year-old had a breakout season in Germany last campaign, attracting interest all across Europe, including Premier League clubs.

Leverkusen received several offers in the summer for the Cameroon international, but turned down bids in the region of £60million for the centre-forward.

The Toffees came into the summer window with a major need to add a new striker, but were left short of one after a move for AS Monaco's Folarin Balogun collapsed.

Thierno Barry is currently David Moyes' only option up top, and there is an expectation that the Blues will sign competition for the Frenchman in January.

Everton held interest in Kofane in the summer, as the player now appears to be pushing for a winter move to England.

Christian Kofane's agent speaks out after Everton offer as 'best option' revealed

Everton had an offer for Kofane rejected in August, who has been in contract discussions with Leverkusen.

However, talks over signing a new deal until 2031 have stalled with the German outfit, causing more speculation around his future.

Kofane's agent, Eric Depolo, has spoken to Arsenal Daily about whether the contract rumours are true, and what the next steps could be for his client.

Depolo said: "Yes, it is true. I can guarantee you that the best option for everyone is to consider a permanent transfer to the Premier League this winter or next summer."

The agent confirmed that three offers from Premier League clubs in the region of £60m were turned down.

Everton were one club, while Aston Villa and Newcastle United also had bids turned down.

Arsenal are said to hold a long-term interest in the young forward and have registered their interest, as Depolo confirms that he is in constant contact with the Gunners.

Why Everton will be watching on as Christian Kofane contract talks take sudden twist

Kofane's current contract expires in 2029, which makes this winter potentially the best time for Bayern Leverkusen to sell.

The 6,2" striker has already scored three times in six games for the German side this season, with a permanent transfer to the Premier League now clearly wanted.

Bundesliga expert Manuel Veth previously told Transfermarkt that Kofane's type of profile is "really rare" to find, particularly due to his height and stature.

He has been backed to become a success wherever he goes, and Everton could come knocking again in the January transfer window.
