Why Everton will be watching on as Christian Kofane contract talks take sudden twist
Everton had Christian Kofane on their list of potential forward signings in the summer.
The striker was a concrete option, with his agent even visiting the Toffees' Finch Farm earlier in the summer.
In the end, David Moyes' squad would fail to bring a new number nine in, with Folarin Balogun's deadline day move collapsing at the final hurdle, with Beto departingfor Fiorentina.
An outcome that left the the Scotsman's squad thin for at least the first half of the 2026-27 season.
So, Everton are still in need of that centre forward option, and the situation around Kofane at Bayer Leverkusen is reaching an interesting crossroads.
And one that the L3 outfit may be able to take advantage of down the line.
What is the latest on Christian Kofane at Bayer Leverkusen
The feeling at the Bundesliga club was that Everton target Kofane was on track to agree to new terms keeping him at the German side until 2031.
However, there appears to be a u-turn within those contract talks.
As reported by the print edition of Sport BILD on 7 October, Everton had sent an offer for Kofane back in August.
However, it is said that it was the Cameroonian who turned that approach down.
Nonetheless, they also go on to share that Kofane's contract talks have "suddenly stalled" at BayArena.
It is reportedly a scenario manufactured by Kofane, who "wants it this way."
While Sport BILD say it is not a sign of him wanting to leave, rather a potential ploy to get different terms, it may result in neither party reaching an agreement.
And that could open an interesting door for Everton.
Why Everton could be waiting in the wings for Kofane now
The stalling of the contract extension could open the door for Everton to swoop back in.
Leverkusen, with no agreement reached yet, may believe now is the best time to extract the most value out of the forward.
Kofane is a striker with plenty of potential, with Leverkusen managing sport director, Simon Rolfes stating back in 2025: "Christian Kofane is an extremely powerful and fast striker, technically gifted and very prolific. "
So, the Toffees may face plenty of competition, with Sport BILD also detailing previous interest from Arsenal, Newcastle, Aston Villa and Manchester United.
However, if Everton can continue their form, and go on to be a team that qualifies for Europe, it will hand them another advantage to finally win this transfer race.
