David Moyes conversation telling as Adam Aznou opens up on Everton exit

Adam Aznou has opened up on his recent Everton exit and the part David Moyes played in it.

The left-back officially joined Malaga last week on loan for the duration of the 2026-27 campaign.

Aznou featured in the Carabao Cup win over Preston North End prior to exiting, with that just his second senior appearance for the Toffees.

He arrived on Merseyside from Bayern Munich last year for a fee of around £7million.

David Moyes clearly does not fancy the 20-year-old, however, with this lack of minutes telling.

And it turns out Aznou's exit this summer was in motion long before it was actually sanctioned.

Aznou has joined LaLiga side Malaga on a straight loan, meaning there is no option to make it permanent next summer.

That suggests the Morocco international could have a future at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Aznou will hope to get his career back on track in Spain, where he previously spent time on loan with Real Valladolid.

And the defender was always hopeful of joining Malaga, who were promoted back to the top flight in the summer.

“I met them in Madrid before the promotion,” he told Radio Marca Malaga. “We had a conversation and they told me that the best option for me was to come to Malaga.

"It was hard to get out of Everton. I talked to the coach to see if I counted on me, but I’m already here and I’m very happy.”

“I’m very excited. I also know LaLiga and it won’t be hard for me to adapt. Malaga is a fantastic club, and this is a big city."

The only surprise is how long it took for Aznou's exit to be announced, though that is likely down to Moyes wanting as many players as possible before the window shut.

Everton fans have yet to form a real opinion of Aznou due to his lack of playing time.

He could go on to become a real star, but for now he is learning his trade back in Spain.

It is fair to say the local media are big fans of the player Malaga now have for the next eight months.

As covered by Radio Marca Malaga, BILD journalist Nico Linner believes Malaga are signing a player ready to be unleashed.

“I remember when he arrived at Bayern in the summer of 2022 as one of Spanish football’s top prospects - on the same level as Lamine Yamal. A huge talent,” Linner said.

“He made significant strides and showed glimpses of his ability. At Everton, the physical step-up was massive, and he had a tough year. Now, I know he is absolutely eager to prove his level and get playing time.”

Those comparisons to Yamal will certainly raise eyebrows among the Everton fanbase, but it goes to show that there is a real talent there waiting to be utilised.

The problem is we will not see that this season, but hopefully Aznou goes on to become a first-team success for the Toffees down the line.
