Everton are setting out their ambitions for the summer window with a move for Daizen Maeda.

The Toffees have only confirmed one deal so far with Hayden Hackney coming in from Middlesbrough.

It's clear that they aren't done there as many other names have been linked with Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Tyrique George could soon complete a permanent return as attacking reinforcements are eyed.

The Chelsea youngster doesn't look likely to be the final forward signing as Maeda comes into view.

Celtic's star has been looked at throughout the season and could now be perfect for what David Moyes wants this summer.

Why Daizen Maeda has emerged as an Everton target for David Moyes

There is a need for fresh faces in attacking areas on Merseyside moving into the new campaign.

That appears to be on the agenda early on, even if Hackney is the only done deal at this stage.

Moyes could turn to his homeland this summer to fulfil that need for forward reinforcements.

South Korean outlet Chosun reported on Saturday that Everton are interested in Celtic star Maeda.

The Blues' boss wants a versatile attacker who can play out wide or upfront and the Japan international is seen as an ideal option to fit that mould.

The Scottish Premiership champions have set an asking price of between £15million and £20m, with Brentford also having "consistently observed" him throughout the season.

Nottingham Forest and Fulham are also in the race, but Moyes' ties to Scotland could play a role in getting a deal done.

David Moyes to continue Scottish Premiership transfer trend with Maeda

The 63-year-old has been around for a long time now having started his managerial career in 1998.

He has signed his fair share of players and has always seen the Scottish Premiership as a source of talent.

That started in 2001 when Derek Collins swapped Hibernian for Preston North End, before Paul Reid moved from Rangers a year later.

Moyes' next delve into his homeland came when James McFadden joined his Everton side before Thomas Gravesen and Nikica Jelavic made their moves to Merseyside.

Matty Kennedy also moved to the Toffees from Kilmarnock in 2012 as the last deal the Scot made in his homeland, but that could be set to change in 2026.

Although not signed by him, Nathan Patterson is another example of swapping Scotland, albeit Rangers, for the Blues, too.

Maeda could prove to be a useful signing for the Toffees, but it could ruffle a few feathers at Celtic Park.

The Japan star is a serial winner, and could leave with 10 pieces of silverware to his name, something Everton desperately crave.
