David Moyes wants five new signings sealed in last-gasp Everton transfer blitz
Everton are planning for a hectic final week of the transfer window.
Up to now, it's been somewhat of a modest summer window of spending from Everton.
Five players have joined, but two of them, Merlin Rohl and Tyrique George, are returning loan players from last season who are now on permanent contracts.
As a result, many Evertonians haven't been particularly thrilled with the Toffees' recruitment in this window, but opinions could be about to change.
David Moyes has the core of a strong side at Hill Dickinson Stadium, as evidenced in the 2-0 win over Crystal Palace.
And if he has it his way, Everton's strength in depth will have been significantly bolstered come the 1 September deadline.
What positions are Everton still targeting signings at?
Having narrowly fallen short of qualifying for European football last season, Everton's lack of squad depth helped see them come undone.
That can't afford to happen again in 2026-27, but more new faces will be needed this summer to help ensure that won't be the case.
Tuesday's print edition of the Daily Mail claims that Moyes wants five more new signings to arrive on Merseyside before the deadline.
Specifically, their shopping list is claimed to comprise of two full-backs, a midfielder, a winger and a striker.
It's no secret that a right-back is a priority, whilst some extra depth or even a potential upgrade over Vitalii Mykolenko could be on the agenda too.
With Tim Iroegbunam out injured, perhaps another central midfielder would be a wise move to shore up Moyes' engine room depth.
Meanwhile, his options out wide and up top are light on the ground, and it would only take an injury or two for Moyes to be in serious trouble at the top end of the pitch.
However, Moyes may already have to make a slight alteration to this plan.
Which Everton target is set to snub Hill Dickinson move?
One player that has been continuously touted to Everton throughout this summer window is Chelsea striker Liam Delap.
Indeed, the aforementioned Daily Mail report also reaffirms that the 23-year-old is a player being considered by the Everton hierarchy.
But, the Toffees may have to cross his name out and move on to other centre-forward targets in this final week of the window.
That's because according to The Athletic late on Monday evening, Nottingham Forest are in 'advanced talks' to sign Delap.
The deal is said to be progressing, and so it would appear Forest are on the verge of securing his signature.
So, this isn't how Moyes will have hoped to start the final week of the window, but there is still time for Everton to readjust their striker search.
