Everton are still desperate to sign a new right-back in the final week of the summer transfer window.

The issue is a problem that has pre-dated David Moyes' return and the takeover of the Friedkin Group.

But, somehow, Everton have still yet to find a solution during the transfer window.

It meant that Merlin Rohl started the opening Premier League game of the season, with Everton defeating Crystal Palace 2-0.

Jake O'Brien was utilised there for the majority of last season, while Nathan Patterson - an actual right-back - is out of favour and not fancied by Moyes.

Strasbourg full-back Guela Doue is thought to still be on Everton's wish list, but one challenge is proving a stumbling block.

What is preventing Everton from signing Guela Doue?

The Toffees have been linked to several full-backs throughout the window but nothing has yet come to fruition.

Ivory Coast international Doue is one such player who the Toffees continue to be interested in.

However, Joe Thomas reported for the Liverpool Echo that Strasbourg's valuation is proving a challenge, despite the fact David Moyes is a fan of the 23-year-old.

Some reports suggest that Strasbourg could want as much as £40million for Doue, which would be a stretch for Everton's budget.

More problematically, Ligue 1 heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain are now said to be tracking Doue - whose brother Desire is already at Parc des Princes - as they look to bolster their own options.

But one thing is for sure, Everton have to address the problem before the 1 September deadline otherwise it will be a failure of the recruitment team.

Who could solve Everton's right-back problem?

Everton have already seen some reported targets move elsewhere.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has joined Aston Villa on loan from West Ham United, while Djed Spence moved to Inter Milan from Tottenham Hotspur.

Celtic's Canada international Alistair Johnston has been linked throughout the summer, but a hamstring injury is set to sideline the 27-year-old until October, which could prove problematic.

Palace's Daniel Munoz has also been mentioned and was seen sharing a moment with Moyes following the game at the weekend.

The clock is ticking for Everton, who surely cannot miss another opportunity to solve this long-standing problem.
