Everton continue to be linked with strikers heading into the summer window, with Alexander Sorloth a name constantly popping up.

The Norwegian striker looks set to exit Atletico Madrid, and there is plenty of interest in the forward within Italy and Spain.

However, Everton are also said to be pursuing the 30-year-old despite his preference being being a transfer to one of the aforementioned countries.

In this instance, Everton may be lucky at that fact, as the interest in Sorloth proves they have their priorities all wrong in the transfer market.

The Toffees are exploring the wrong side of the centre-forward market and that could prolong their striker problems.

Why Everton must change criteria for striker search

Everton are already well stocked in tall and powerful strikers, with Thierno Barry and Beto both fitting into that category.

So, would signing 6'5" Sorloth really make much difference next season?

According to Matteo Moretto, the Toffees have once again been name dropped in the conversation to sign him.

He stated: "Alexander Sorloth is on his way out of Atletico Madrid. Atléeico Madrid are willing to listen to offers for Sorloth. Interest has come from both Spain and England, with Everton in particular among the clubs interested."

Despite scoring 19 goals across La Liga and the Champions League in 2025-2026, the arrival of Sorloth is simply not an inspiring signing at all.

Additionally, at 30 years old, financially it comes with plenty of risk. There would be little to no resale value if and when the Norwegian international becomes surplus to requirements

This is not just a one-off either, as Everton have been linked with similar tall-strong profiles, including that of Dusan Vlahovic.

If Moyes is looking to sign a similar player to that of Sorloth, Everton, truthfully, would be better sticking with the options currently at their disposal instead.

While a striker would be a good acquisition, the Blues must reassess the profile they are looking into first.

Are Thierno Barry and Beto being underrated at Everton?

Barry and Beto have been often scrutinised for their performances in the Toffees shirt, however, they could ultimately be on the end of unfair criticism.

In truth, both players are of a similar level and that is clear through their almost equal share of minutes throughout the season.

Beto has played 37 games in the 2025-2026 Premier League season, missing just one game against West Ham due to concussion.

While Barry played in all 38 throughout the season. It is very rare that either completes a 90 minute game of football, with just four full appearances between the two of them.

Additionally, Barry only completes 51 minutes per game on average with Beto on 44 mintues per game, according to Sofascore.

However, combined, the pair have 17 Premier League goals. In theory, the pair are sharing the minutes that just one top-flight premium striker would likely receive.

In that regard, the 17 shared goals is quite a decent return. It leaves the mind to wonder what their output would be if they were afforded more consistent level of involvement.
