Everton get Krepin Diatta answer as free agent World Cup gem agrees next move

Everton were in the mix to sign Krepin Diatta during the summer transfer window and he finally appears to be on the move.

Due to the 27-year-old being a free agent following the expiration of his Monaco contract, he is still able to move clubs out of window.

Everton were not alone in showing an interest in Diatta, though, as Paris FC made an approach and others on the continent have circled.

Diatta was also previously on Club Brugge's books and has featured 66 times for Senegal, including at the recent World Cup.

While the Toffees' interest has cooled of late, speculation regarding the versatile winger, who is also comfortable at wing-back, has continued.

And he is now expected to join an English club very soon, albeit not Everton.

Who is Krepin Diatta joining?

Diatta's stock is pretty high given he has just been at a club in one of Europe's top leagues, plus the fact he was at the World Cup.

But it looks as though the Dakar native, who started four games in the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico, is about to drop down a level.

As per Senegalese journalist Papa Ousmane Kasse via X on Tuesday, Diatta is set to join Championship club Watford.

An agreement is said to be in place for Diatta to join until the end of the current campaign.

Watford will likely be a stopgap for Diatta, but it is still a surprise to see him join a club outside the elite divisions.

Everton could be back in for another midfielder

The transfer window will open again before we know it.

October is already upon us on Thursday, meaning there are only three more months before new signings can be made - or players let go.

A separate report this week suggested Juventus would be open to selling Everton target Teun Koopmeiners.

Everton were linked with Koopmeiners in the summer without anything materialising.

Diatta is seemingly now off the books, but Koopmeiners is very much one to watch.
