How Everton can sign Teun Koopmeiners in January as Juventus terms revealed

Everton were said to have been interested in Juventus midfielder Teun Koopmeiners in the summer.

The Toffees identified their midfield as one area that they needed to strengthen in the window.

Hayden Hackney's arrival immediately brought David Moyes greater athleticism and vision in the middle of the park, and he is now competing with Harrison Armstrong for a spot.

Tim Iroegbunam and Idrissa Gana Gueye both left the Blues in the summer, leaving some supporters hopeful of one more midfield addition after Christian Norgaard.

Though there are several players who can play in a deep midfield role if needed, it would be another case of shoehorning a player out of position.

Everton could still move for Koopmeiners again, with Juventus currently monitoring his future.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Everton, Newcastle United, Monaco and Galatasaray were all interested in Koopmeiners.

The 28-year-old joined Juventus from Atlanta in 2024, but has so far failed to repay his £44million price tag.

The Serie A side feels that if there is no "significant" improvement in his performances, they will explore the January market to find him a new club.

Selling him for less than £21.4m is "not an option", as it would result in a big capital loss for Juve.

However, it's said that a loan exit may be sanctioned, and that interested clubs, including the Toffees, could revisit a deal in the winter.

The final decision would be on the Dutchman, who is in his third season with the Old Lady.

Why Koopmeiners has not been an ultimate failure for Juventus

Everton already have the likes of James Garner, Armstrong, Hackney and Norgaard.

However, the Toffees clearly feel like midfield is an area where they could do with one more addition, especially if they are pushing to qualify for Europe.

Koopmeiners has been made out to sound like a bad signing for Juventus.

While he hasn't repaid the big money Juventus spent on him, his performances have not been all that bad, as he's managed 95 appearances already under four different head coaches.

If the Blues could seal a loan move for Koopmeiners, it could turn out to be a shrewd addition for the run-in.
