Everton in talks over 'shock' Brennan Johnson signing, David Moyes has sacrificial lamb to seal the deal

Everton are in talks over a swap deal that would see them sign Brennan Johnson from Crystal Palace.

Johnson, 25, joined Crystal Palace from Tottenham in a club-record £35million deal in January, but struggled to settle down in South London.

The Wales international, who has lifted the Europa League and Conference League titles in each of his last two seasons, is now available to leave Selhurst Park after just seven months.

It's now been reported that Everton are discussing a deal for Johnson, and David Moyes is ready to offer up Dwight McNeil in a swap.

McNeil, 26, almost joined Palace in the winter, with the London club being accused of "messing" with the Everton winger's mental health by his girlfriend after the move collapsed.

However, despite that scathing criticism of Crystal Palace, McNeil could still find himself at Selhurst Park in the coming weeks.

David Moyes ready to offer Dwight McNeil in exchange deal

Writing via his Patreon page on Friday evening, Alan Nixon reported that a "shock" swap agreement is on the cards that will see Johnson head to Merseyside and McNeil move to South London.

It is understood that Johnson is "available" and Moyes, in a bid to bolster his attacking options, "could sacrifice McNeil, who also fits the bill for Palace".

Ex-Burnley winger McNeil played just 22 times in the Premier League last season, averaging only 54 minutes per game.

He scored zero goals and supplied just one assist in those games.

It feels as though if this is a straight awap, Everton will be the major beneficiaries, so should Blues fans expect to pay a fee alongside McNeil in order to sign Johnson?

How Everton's potential swap deal for Brennan Johnson could work

Let's face it, even if Crystal Palace really wanted to sign McNeil this summer, there's no way they're accepting a straight-up swap.

Johnson hasn't had the best of time at Palace, but the Londoners will definitely want to recoup the £35m they paid for him in January when he joined them from Spurs.

In February, it was widely reported that Palace agreed to pay £20m to sign McNeil before that deal collapsed.

So that means that Evertonians can probably expect to see an offer of £15m plus McNeil for Johnson being made.

However, one big issue is that swap deals barely ever happen, so right now, we're not taking this one too seriously.
