Everton learn Patrick Berg transfer dilemma as Norway boss speaks out

Everton's name has been mentioned alongside reports linking Patrick Berg with a move out of Bodo/Glimt.

The Norwegian international has been attracting plenty of interest this summer but has still yet to make a move away.

Berg was a star man for his nation at the 2026 World Cup, starting in four of their six matches and picking up two assists.

Most notably, one of which came to set Erling Haaland up for an 86th-minute winner versus Ivory Coast in the round of 32.

However, now as the transfer window now comes to a close, the 28-year-old's future is becoming a hot topic.

And his national team manager has now weighed into his situation at Bodo/Glimt.

Leaving Bodo/Glimt will not be an easy decision for Berg as they are set to play Champions League football.

However, Football Norge have now linked him with both Everton and Leeds United this summer.

The report also shares quotes from Norway manager Stale Solbakken from over the last week via Nettavisen, where he states: "He can play anywhere, so I think the Champions League is tempting again.

"Patrick can play anywhere; now he is in Bodo/Glimt, so it looks good.”

Everton, of course, do not have any European football this season, leaving them missing a key ingredient in tempting Berg of a move away this summer.

However, the source of those quotes also shares that Norwegian football expert Carl-Erik Torp believes Berg is still interested of the idea of a move away.

Of course, with his international manager weighing in and seemingly happy for him to remain at Bodo/Glimt, Berg will have a decision to make over his future should firm interest materialise.

Do Everton need Berg now?

The report linking Berg with Everton may still be residual interest filtering in from earlier in the transfer window.

The Blues are not exactly desperate to add another midfielder following the arrivals of Hayden Hackney and Christian Norgaard.

Other positions in the squad are a much bigger priority and while there may seemingly still be an opening to sign the Bodo/Glimt star, at this stage, it would be a surprise to see Everton make that move.

Nonetheless, Berg would certainly improve the Toffees' midfield options and perhaps he is a player being lined up should Tim Iroegbunam depart.

The Englishman has been linked with Hull City, while teams in Turkey circle to sign Iroegbunam as well.
