Everton must heed Rico Lewis warning - it goes against David Moyes transfer priority
Everton are keeping an eye on Manchester City defender Rico Lewis this transfer window.
David Moyes wants the England international as the Toffees look to strengthen their squad ahead of next season.
What the 21-year-old, who mostly played as a right-back last season, would bring to the Blues is technical intelligence.
Lewis could be set to reignite his career away from Man City, with Hill Dickinson Stadium seen as an option.
The Scottish manager is in desperate need of a new right-back, with Seamus Coleman leaving and Nathan Patterson's future uncertain.
Jake O'Brien has also underwhelmed in recent months playing out of position, but the Merseyside outfit may be better off heeding Pep Guardiola's advice as they look to bolster their defence.
Why Rico Lewis transfer would be gamble at Everton
Goodison News have covered reports that Moyes is an admirer of Lewis for his versatility in playing at right-back and in midfield.
If his agenda is to bring the English starlet to Hill Dickinson Stadium to play him in the backline, then he should reconsider that idea.
Speaking about Lewis in January 2026, Guardiola said, "[Lewis] is a midfield player. He is not a player to play right-back up and down [the touchline]. He likes to do it, but when opponents allow you to go to pockets, he is just extraordinary."
While the Spanish manager consistently played Lewis in defence, he certainly didn't have any option, with the engine room at the Etihad Stadium stacked with quality.
The Merseyside outfit would clearly be making a mistake if their sole intention is to sign the England international to play at right-back.
David Moyes has three evident transfer priorities at Hill Dickinson Stadium
Everton must sign a new right-back if they hope to make further progress next season.
The Toffees have struggled for quality in that position over the last two years and The Friedkin Group should make addressing it their top priority.
On the opposite flank, Vitalii Mykolenko could do with some cover and competition, with Moyes showing no faith in Adam Aznou.
Another position the Blues should be desperate to strengthen is up top, with a reliable number nine needed.
Beto and Thierno Barry have shown inconsistency at the Merseyside outfit, with neither cementing their place in the starting lineup.
Having three strikers should be a minimum for the Scottish manager next season as he looks to climb further up the Premier League table and potentially compete for European qualification.
